Course overview
Designed for young adults aged 8–16, this two-day course introduces participants to boating techniques for everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. In the Bristol Harbour or Portishead Marina, you will get to grips with manoeuvring a powerboat up to 10 meters in the daylight.

What you’ll learn
- Launch and recovery (8-11-year-olds to observe)
- Preparation of boat and crew
- Boat handling
- Picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Man overboard (theory)
Prerequisites
- None: suitable for complete beginners. Candidates under 16 receive an endorsed certificate requiring adult supervision.
- Minimum age: 8
What you’ll achieve
Upon completion of the course you’ll be able to assist onboard a powerboat and drive under supervision.
